    Night cream review

    I have been a Romilly Wilde fan since I first tried its products. In particular I have used the cleanser, oil, serum and night cream. I was disappointed when the cleanser came out of production and switched to Dr Hauschka . I was then really taken aback to hear that all products were off sale earlier this year. I had stock piled some facial oil and serum and stopped using night cream - partly as I didn't like Dr Hauschka's alternative, and partly because I moved to Italy where I now live much of the time on a biodynamic farm, eating organic vegetables, living outside, and not subject to the polluting environment of the city and this has had a really big impact on my skin - I need much less product. Nevertheless I am now back in London and the overnight rich cream is beautiful on my skin. I am so grateful to be able to sample this. It is silky smooth and very natural and helps to keep me feeling nourished and for my skin to be well balanced in a stressful urban environment.

    Seven days of Night Cream

    Night One: Vibrant yellow colour (rather than orange), which is pleasant. Less of a 'cold cream' consistency than former night product, this new cream, left a slightly sticky/tacky finish and did not feel so mosturising.

    Night Six: More used to consistency but in terms of how it feels, find it less appealing than the former cream. It feels as if it sits on the skin rather than penetrating. However, regardless of this, skin is feeling smoother. I am prone to redness on my cheeks and this has diminished.

    Night cream

    I do like the absorption of the cream however I feel it’s a little light for my skin. The yellow colour is less than the old night cream however this new night cream still stains my bedclothes and pillow.

Does it contain retinol?

No. The active is a bioretinol, a plant-derived alternative sourced from Bidens Pilosa, and the formula contains no retinol and no retinoid of any kind. It sits within DermaGenix7, a proprietary botanical blend developed for the look of texture, radiance and fine lines. It is the answer for anyone who wants overnight renewal but has found conventional retinol too demanding.
Will my skin be sensitive or flaky the next day?

That is exactly what it was formulated to avoid. Overnight richness, no next-day regrets. Alongside the bioretinol, six botanical oils and butters, including prickly pear, inca inchi, sea buckthorn, olive, shea and cocoa, support the barrier while you sleep, and fermented bamboo bio-water, fruit waters and hyaluronic acid replenish moisture through the night. If you are new to active ingredients, start every other night and build up as your skin settles.
Where do the warm amber colour and the scent come from?

Both come from the formula itself. The amber tone is the natural colour of the botanical oils and plant actives in the blend, and the soft scent is chamomile, chosen to suit a product you apply last thing at night. Nothing is added to colour the cream. As with all botanical formulas, the depth of the shade can vary slightly between batches.
Is it too rich for my skin, and where should I apply it?

It is an intense overnight formula, which is deliberate, because skin loses more moisture at night and repairs itself while you sleep. Most skin types find it comfortable rather than heavy, since the richness is delivered through lipids the barrier recognises. Apply it nightly after cleansing and serum to face, neck and décolletage, and do not forget the earlobes, which show age surprisingly early. If your skin is very oily, use it two or three nights a week.
How does it work with the rest of the routine?

Day protects, night rebuilds. In the evening, cleanse, apply two pumps of the Peptide Longevity Serum, then follow with this cream to seal everything in and support the skin's natural overnight renewal. It contains an Activ Plant Cell Complex made from four o'clock flower cells with natural caffeine, a plant whose flowers open in the evening, which suits the moment you are using it. Nothing in it conflicts with the serum, the two are designed to be layered.
Is the night cream suitable for young skin?

Yes, though young skin may not need it. The Bioretinol Overnight Rich Cream is rich by design, built for skin that is dry, dull or beginning to lose firmness. If you are in your twenties with combination skin, start with the serum or the day cream. If you are in your twenties with dry skin, the night cream will suit you well. Because it contains no retinoid, there is no reason to wait until a certain age.
