Look at almost any skincare label and you'll find the word clinical. Clinically tested. Clinically proven. Clinical results. It sounds like a laboratory. It sounds like proof.

Most of the time, it isn't. It's a user trial.

What the industry usually means

A typical skincare study works like this. A group of people use a product for a few weeks. At the end, they fill in a questionnaire. "92% agreed skin felt more hydrated." "87% said skin looked firmer." Sometimes a trained assessor looks at their skin and gives it a score. Sometimes a device measures hydration or elasticity at the surface.

There's nothing wrong with asking people how their skin feels. We do it too. But a perception trial measures perception. It tells you what people noticed, or thought they noticed, on the surface, in the moment. It can't see what happened underneath. And it can't tell you whether the product changed anything about how skin actually works.

That's the gap the word clinical has been quietly covering.

What we do instead

Your skin is built from proteins. Collagen for structure, elastin for spring, keratin for resilience, and thousands of enzymes and messengers keeping the whole system running. Together they're your skin's proteome, and it's where our research begins. When pollution and sunlight hit skin, they create oxidative stress, and oxidative stress damages those proteins. That damage is what ageing looks like from the inside.

So rather than asking how skin feels, we measure the damage.

We work with OxiProteomics, a laboratory in France that specialises in one thing: measuring oxidative damage to proteins. Here's how a study runs, in plain terms.

Living human skin. The tests use human skin, donated after surgery and kept alive in the laboratory for the length of the study. Not skin cells in a dish. Intact tissue, with all its layers, still doing biology.

Real-world stress. The skin is exposed to the things that damage it in everyday life: certified urban dust, the fine particles found in city air, followed by UV-A, the part of sunlight that penetrates deepest. The doses are set to mimic ordinary environmental exposure, not extreme conditions.

A biomarker, not an opinion. Oxidative stress leaves a chemical signature on proteins called carbonylation. It can be detected and counted. The laboratory measures it before and after stress, with and without our formula, in each layer of the skin separately.

Two questions, two protocols. Our day cream is tested with the formula applied before the stress, to see how skin holds up. Our serum is tested with the formula applied after, to see how skin recovers. Each product is tested for the job it's designed to do.

Why this matters to you

A questionnaire can tell you a product felt nice. This tells you whether the product changed what environmental stress did to your skin's proteins. Measured, not asked. In living human tissue, not in a survey.

It's also honest about its limits. These are laboratory studies on skin samples, not trials on people going about their lives. We say that plainly on every result we publish, along with how the study was run. If you want to check the method, you can.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to. Show the measurement. Show the conditions. Let the evidence carry the claim.
