As a company dedicated to clean beauty, we want to share the best and most effective ways to stay looking young, rested and in complete health. With seasonal changes and external elements at play, we always advocate natural, mindful ways to improve your skin. When it comes to your clean, anti aging skincare regimen, sleep may be the closest thing there is to a fountain of youth. Consider it your beauty sleep elixir. Your body repairs itself and recovers while you snooze, and that leads to a long list of benefits for your looks. The key is to get enough sleep, between 7 to 9 quality hours each night.
If you’re getting fewer than 6 hours, it may well affect your appearance. Only getting 5 hours a night can lead to twice as many fine lines as sleeping 7 would. It also leaves skin drier, which can make lines more visible.
Skin makes new collagen when you sleep, and when used with the Romilly Wilde ‘Night Duty Collagen +++” this supports the collagen production by as much as 30% meaning skin is plumper and less likely to wrinkle.
SNOOZING IS NOT LOSING
Your body boosts blood flow to the skin while you snooze, which means you wake to a healthy glow and enviable rosy cheeks. Compromising on sleep and your complexion can look dull and lifeless. This is because sleep deprivation causes a decrease in blood flow as the body is overworked and the system becomes stressed. In short, you can’t have it all. All those gym bunnies absolutely need their shut eye as the demand on your bodies put extra strain on your systems, so all the more need for cellular recovery during sleep.
Brighter, Less Puffy Eyes are a sure sign of someone who has had their beauty sleep. Dark circles and under eye bags are one of the first signs of sleep deprivation, and sadly something that we struggle to hide. Romilly Wilde ‘Eye Believe’ eye wand is the most remarkable way to reduce any signs of eye tiredness, due to the active marine algaes of sea chamomile and Ayurevedic Schisandra.
Stay well-hydrated and elevate your head with an extra pillow at night, too. That can also help reduce swelling.
BEAUTY SLEEP IS REAL.
The quality and length of sleep you receive every night can have a profound impact on your skin’s overall health. When we sleep our bodies recharge. Not only do our bodies recharge, our skin does as well. During sleep we heal, restore and eliminate toxins from the skin. If sleep is compromised so is the body’s ability to carry out these essential skin functions.
During the first three hours of sleep your body will start producing the human growth hormone from the pituitary gland. As we age, this hormone is necessary for the maintenance of youthful and radiant skin. Without this hormone release, skin is not repaired from daily damage and thus induces the ageing process.
The middle two hours of sleep is when melatonin is increased. Melatonin is a hormone that is responsible for regulating your circadian rhythm (sleep/wake patterns) but also acts as an antioxidantthat helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals.
The final three hours, or during the active REM sleep stage, levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, decrease. Cortisol triggers inflammation one of our biggest enemies. Inflammation breaks down the proteins in the skin that keep your skin radiant and smooth.
When you are tired the blood in your body is not flowing efficiently which normally results in a lack of oxygen in the blood. This lack of oxygen causes your skin to appear ashy, pigmented, or blotchy.
The skin’s temperature also drops to its lowest point allowing muscles to relax and become immobile, giving skin its deepest recovery of the night.
All due to the remarkable little gland in our brain. The pituitary gland is a tiny organ, the size of a pea, found at the base of the brain. As the “master gland” of the body, it produces these hormones that travel throughout the body, directing certain processes or stimulating other glands to produce other hormones. Isn’t it the most remarkable little thing and very much underestimated. We honour and celebrate you, our little friend.
SLEEP – NATURES MOISTURISER
Did you know that during sleep you perspire more? It’s true. While you are asleep your body’s hydration rebalances and recovers extra moisture. This makes sleep a natural moisturizer that can help to smooth out wrinkles on the skin.
If you miss out on sleep it can also affect the moisture levels in your skin and lower your complexion’s PH level. A skin imbalance is created when your PH levels drop. This imbalance causes your skin to not produce the moisture it so desperately needs, leading to drier skin.
We asked London Fashion designer Jessica Russell Flint to design these gorgeous 100% silk eye masks. They are made of the softest possible silk and are perfect for travel sleep or napping. Use together with our Eye Believe Eye Serum, your tired eyes will be a thing of the past. ZZZZzzzzzz
Ever woken up with a sleep crease? As skin ages, it loses elasticity and sleep creases – which are caused by friction and pressure on facial skin – can become more pronounced and longer-lasting. While the creases usually go away later that day, they can be gradually ‘ironed in’ over the years.
Sleeping on silk is a great expert beauty tip and a long-time beauty secret. In laboratory tests, Slipsilk was shown to reduce friction or ‘drag’ on delicate skin by 43% on average, versus cotton pillowcases* resulting in a smooth, luxurious surface that helps skin to glide along the pillow.
Sweet dreams my Wilde Beauties!
